Reach Ahead Program for students in Grade 8
Ahavat Yisrael Hebrew School in conjunction with National Council of Synagogue Youth (NCSY) and Torah High is offering an innovative program for students in grade 8.
The class meets once a week on Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. It is an exciting curriculum specifically geared towards leadership training and skills for post Bar and Bat Mitzvah age students.
We will be providing many thoughtful and stimulating topics for the students to ponder, including Jewish identity, and the importance of each and everyone's role in Judaism; the importance of Jewish ideals such as Chesed (kindness) and Tzedakah (charity) in our community, to the entire Jewish people and to the world at large.
The students will develop a bond to the Jewish homeland, a sense of Jewish pride and an understanding of Jewish ethics & values. There will be many guest speakers, as well as field trips and volunteer work to round out this experience of a lifetime.
Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Ministry approved Grade 9 credit in Religious Studies. Any student may join the class, however those wishing to receive the credit, must complete an additional 30 hours outside of class by choosing from one of our 3rd Hour Options. Many options are available and will be detailed to the students on the first day of class. Choices include attending informal, educational weekend retreats (Shabbaton) or by participating in our independent study program on line. | |
